Charleston Ballet Theatre presents

A Midsummer Night's Dream

Saturday, February 11th at 7:30pm and Sunday, February 12th at 3pm

From the company’s very first season comes Resident Choreographer Jill Eathorne Bahr’s enchanting epic interpretation of the dream-filled Shakespeare classic comedy with mischievous spirit Puck leading the way through the magical forest. The evening is paired with George Balanchine’s exciting and abstract Allegro Brilliante set to the music of Tschaikovsky and Jill Eathorne Bahr’s dark and menacing Poetry With A Splash of Red Blood set to the music of minimalist composer Philip Glass.

Math Meet Awards Ceremony

presented by the College of Charleston Math Department

The College of Charleston Math Meet is an annual competition that brings hundreds of high school students to C of C for a day of fun, innovative, and challenging mathematics competitions. There are many different events in different locations all over campus, and it all culminates at the Awards Ceremony at the Sottile Theatre.

 

 

 

Love is in the Air

presented by Charleston Men's Chorus

Sunday, March 18, 2012 at 3pm

The concert will feature the all-male group singing various love songs and arrangements. Interim Director Ricard Bordas says, “Our goal is to serenade the audience and remind them of what love is all about.” Proceeds from this, as well as the group’s other concerts, benefit music scholarships given to students studying vocal music and/or choral conducting at the College of Charleston and Charleston Southern University. The concert will feature current scholarship recipients.  Interim Director Ricard Bordas will conduct, and Pamela Nelson will accompany on piano.

            Tickets for the concert are available at www.cmchorus.com, Monster Music & Movies (West Ashley), Royall Hardware (Mt. Pleasant), and at the box office the day of the concert. Admission is $15 plus $1 surcharge; free to ages 6 and under. 

            The Charleston Men's Chorus is a non-profit group of about 70 experienced and talented male singers who perform in the tri-county area and are devoted to promoting choral music in the Lowcountry and giving a portion of their proceeds back to the community through music scholarships.

Bill McKibben is a co-founder and global organizer of 350.org. He is an American environmentalist and writer who frequently writes about global warming, alternative energy, and the risks associated with human genetic engineering. A scholar-in-residence at Middlebury College, McKibben is the author of The End of Nature, the first book for a general audience on climate change.

Charleston International Film Festival

Charleston International Film Festival is a 501(c) 3 non-profit organization with the mission to educate, entertain, and inspire through the art and science of film. Attendees will gather for five days April 11-15, 2012 in downtown Charleston and Cinebarre. The latest sneak previews and premieres of some of the best new features, documentaries, shorts and animations of local, national and international filmmakers are screened. After the shows, be our guest at the finest select venues around town for nightly after-parties and deal making opportunities. In addition to films and special events, insightful industry panels and educational workshops are offered. The festival closes on a high note at the formal Awards Gala, when the finest in filmmaking and writing displayed during the competition are recognized and honored for their outstanding efforts.
